Perinatal and Obstetric Pathology

The Division of Perinatal and Obstetric Pathology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine is a leader in the assessment of placental specimens, with the goal of diagnosing underlying disease and explaining adverse pregnancy outcomes (such as fetal death or poor neurologic outcome). The evaluations conducted by our perinatal pathologists can help explain recurrent pregnancy loss and sometimes provide information to enable a woman to achieve a successful pregnancy in the future. Our services may be requested by patients and obstetrician/gynecologists, in addition to other pathologists. With the Division of Gynecologic Pathology, Perinatal and Obstetrical Pathology evaluates approximately 8,000 gynecologic/perinatal specimens per year.

Advanced training in perinatal pathology is provided through a one-year Gynecologic and Perinatal Pathology Fellowship, affording trainees experience in both gynecologic and perinatal pathology. The division collaborates closely with members of the Division of Gynecologic Pathology, fellow pathologists, and other physicians at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
