Communities served
LMH is a community-based hospital serving the highly diverse residential communities of Chinatown, the Financial District, SoHo, TriBeCa, Battery Park City, and the Lower East Side. It is the only hospital south of 14th street in Manhattan and will be the sole hospital south of 26th street.
The LMH department has 3 subspecialty-trained pathologists in: Transfusion Medicine, Breast and Cytopathology and Oncologic Surgical Pathology
Subspecialty signout is not currently performed at LMH, but the goal is to convert to subspecialty signout by integrating the service with WCM.
Notable Achievements
• Laboratory integration: The procedures at LMH have been restructured to emphasize on-site performance of tests that require rapid responses. Much of the more complex testing with longer turnaround times are transferred to WCM to benefit from the sophisticated advanced technologies there.
• Integrated pathology services: Anatomic pathology and microbiology services are overseen by WCM campus medical leadership. Cytopathology testing is performed on the WCM campus for improved access to advanced diagnostic technologies and subspecialty expertise. Complex microbiology testing (including bacteriology) is sent to the WCM campus to provide LMH patients access to advanced proteomic and molecular diagnostic methods to improve diagnostic accuracy for the treatment ofinfections and the reduction of sepsis and death.
