Breast Pathology Fellowship

We are now accepting fellowship applications for 2027-2028.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine offers a one-year Breast Pathology Fellowship. This robust fellowship focuses on attaining excellence in diagnosing various neoplastic and non-neoplastic breast diseases. The abundance of available pathological material and the faculty’s commitment to training are the two main distinguishing features of this Fellowship. The Fellow actively participates in the workup and diagnosis of in-house breast pathology cases (more than 6,000 cases/year). These cases provide ample exposure to a wide variety of routinely encountered cases. In addition, a wealth of diagnostically challenging cases submitted to the long-standing Breast Pathology Consultation Service, established by Dr. Paul Peter Rosen, is available for study. The Consultation Service receives ~100 cases/month. The Fellow actively participates in the regularly held diagnostic ‘consensus/peer review’ conference and leads the intra-departmental weekly ‘Interesting Breast Pathology Cases’ conference. The Fellow represents the Service in regularly scheduled inter-departmental clinicopathological and radiology-pathology correlation conferences. A multidisciplinary team approach to patient management is emphasized at Tumor Boards. The Fellow is also expected to supervise the residents’ gross handling of complex specimens, and to help in ‘troubleshooting’ clinical issues. The completion of at least one clinicopathological or translational research project during the year is expected. Upon completion of such vigorous training, the Fellows are invariably successful in securing a position of their choice—either in an academic or a non-academic setting.
