Abstract | Neuroendocrine tumors form a distinct group of lung neoplasms sharing characteristic cytohistologic, immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and molecular features. The objective of this review article is to discuss the diagnostic classifications and the morphologic cytologic-histologic features for the different categories of neuroendocrine tumors of the lung. An accurate characterization of the neuroendocrine tumors of the lung requires knowledge of specific criteria separating the major categories, which is highly essential for determining prognosis and treatment options for these patients. |
