Dr. Hajjar elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Congratulation to Dr. David Hajjar on his election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. This year the Academy elected 213 new members including some of the world’s most accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists, as well as civic, business, and philanthropic leaders.

David P. Hajjar, PhD
Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Dr. Hajjar has been a faculty member in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine since 1981. During this time his laboratory has made many important contributions to our current understanding of basic vascular biology and the influence of metabolic and inflammatory pathways on vascular integrity and function. Dr. Hajjar has also been pivotal in charting the course of Weill Cornell Medicine by serving in several key institutional leadership positions including Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Vice Provost of the Faculty, and Director of the Vascular Biology Center.

As stated in the 1780 Charter, the purpose of the Academy is to “cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent and virtuous people.” Dr. Hajjar’s long career at Weill Cornell Medical College certainly embodies these important principles.

Dr. Hajjar will be inducted into the Academy at a ceremony at the House of the Academy in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 8, 2016.

Congratulations Dr. Hajjar! Well deserved!
