Central Laboratory

The Central Laboratory provides state-of-the-art testing for patients at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine as well as an ever-expanding network of reference laboratory clients through the New York Hospital Laboratories outreach program. We process over 16 million tests annually in specialty areas that include Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Immunology. Our lab is accredited by both the New York State Department of Health and the College of American Pathologists. As the largest laboratory, we employ over 170 employees who are overseen by an excellent management team with assistance from four laboratory directors.

Research

Faculty in the Central Laboratory are engaged in a range of projects aimed at both developing and validating the use of advanced diagnostics for better patient care. Examples of these projects include:

• Exploring new methodologies for monitoring patients with multiple myeloma
• Development of new assays for coagulation disorders

Education

Faculty in the Central Laboratory also contribute to the academic mission of the department through the training and education of medical students, pathology residents and medical laboratory scientists.
