Dr. Liming Bao became the Weill Cornell Medicine and NYP/WC Director of Cytogenetics on October 1, 2022. Dr. Bao joins us from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus where he is a professor of pathology at the Colorado University School of Medicine. He is board-certificated in clinical cytogenetics and molecular genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
Dr. Bao received his medical degree from the Fudan University Shanghai Medical College in China and doctorate degree in molecular biology from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his research postdoctoral training and fellowships in clinical molecular genetics and clinical cytogenetics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Prior to assuming his role as Director of the Colorado Genetics Laboratory at the University of Colorado, Dr. Bao directed cytogenetics laboratories at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. His primary research interests are genetic and genomic profiling of hematologic neoplasms and genetic abnormalities underlying congenital conditions.
Dr. Bao is a full member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, and serves as director of the cytogenetics shared resource within the CU cancer center. He has published approximately 90 journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Bao is the vice president of the American Cytogenomics Conference, a national professional organization for cytogeneticists in the US, and the president-elect of Association of Chinese Geneticists in America.
